Alice: Unbirthday? I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand.

March Hare: It's very simple. Now, thirty days has Septem -No. wait... An unbirthday... She doesn't know what an unbirthday is!

Happy Un-birthday to me because a couple of months ago I bought myself a "Birthday Beb" even though my actual birthday isn't until the beginning of December. I was super excited to get this package from Packed Party since this has probably been one of my favorite editions they've ever released. The last time I bought myself a Packed Party I was underwhelmed and disappointed by many of the items I received, but this time around I was just as excited to use everything as I was when I first saw them online to order.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Packed Party here's a little rundown of what it is: First of all Packed Party is not a subscription service... it's 10x better because each package is specifically curated for any special occasion that deserves a little party-of-one delivered to your or a friend's doorstep. Second, each edition of a particular box is only available for a limited time since orders start flooding in and they sell out of the products they use to curate each package (ex. you can still purchase a Birthday Beb package from PackedParty.com but the specific items inside won't be the exact same as the ones I got from the package I ordered in March). Third, the best part about Packed Party is how the whole thing started. Jordan Jones, the founder, is an incredible entrepreneur who started the entire business from her bedroom floor.

The current Birthday Beb has all of the same products I received in mine except in different color schemes and patterns. So far my least favorite item has been the Ban.do disco headphones which, coincidentally, I already wanted to buy from the Ban.do website before Packed Party put them in their packages. The "disco" design on the back of each earbuds has already started started wearing away even though I've only used them a handful of times. I love the Kate Spade holographic mini notebook even though it was a little smaller than I was expecting. The cover appears to be leather and the paper inside is thick enough to not let ink bleed through when you're jotting down quick notes. The drink holder and confetti popper are still sitting on my desk unused. The confetti popper is way bigger than I thought it would be (which is a good thing) so I'm going to wait until a major event where I can pop it in front of a ton of people to celebrate. I don't use drink holders that often but this "I Wanna Party With You" one from Ban.do is cute and seems like it would be perfect for keeping drinks handy at summer festivals and backyard BBQs. All in all, I love this Birthday Beb and it was a perfect gift to wish myself the happiest of un-birthdays!

A Fashionista's Reading List: Summer 2015

wes anderson, kim kardashian, summer 2015 reading list, amy poehler book, leave your mark, embrace yourself book list
There is no particular theme this season for the Fashionista's Reading List other than "embrace the nerd in you." Everyone of us has something that we're really into and spending a little extra time this summer embracing it is just a little way to treat yo' self! If you're a big fan of Wes Anderson or classic indie movies then there's a book for you. If you admire a great female, comedy bada** then there's also a book for you. If you're a blogger or entrepreneur trying to make your mark on the industry you're involved in then there's definitely a book for you. If the traditional, best-seller YA genre is more your thing then there's a book for you. And if you're reality TV obsessed (like me!) and find yourself defending the Kardashians on more than one occasion then there's even a book for you. Embrace who you are and what you love. Don't be afraid to branch out of your comfort zone and venture into a genre that isn't typically your style, too. Mix 'n' match and discover what you're into.

Technically, I Suck At Blogging: Blogger Confessions VI

It has been a long while since I last wrote a blogger confessions post. In a way, this is actually one of my favorite series to write on AGR and for obvious reasons, is the most therapeutic. There are so many things worth confessing 18 months into this little game I've been pretending to play called blogging. I'm only going to hit the tip of the iceberg in this post but hopefully later on I'll be able to go a little deeper and dig a little further into how and why I've pretty much become a blogger that technically sucks at blogging.

I say technically because I still love what I do just as much, if not more, most times of the day. My biggest fear is one day deciding that all of a sudden I no longer want to publish my "literary masterpieces" on the interwebs and share all the crazy things that cross my mind on the daily. But even though I love blogging just as much, I have been treating it like a nuisance for almost six months. I've failed to publish several posts on time, I haven't had an #OOTD article in practically nine months, and some of my topics of conversation can be described as rather bland. No good blogger can get better if she treats the blog she supposedly cares so much about like an unwanted pair of booties she won't ever wear but refuses to get rid of. Yet that's what I've been doing.

Not to mention the fact that my readership has dropped so drastically I almost wonder if there's been a targeted, mass genocide of A Glamorous Revelation readers. It took me a while to admit it, but I lost almost 80% of my average monthly page views when I subconsciously pushed my blog to the back-burning and halfheartedly kept it running. Even though I blame a big chunk of my viewership decline on Google algorithms and its funky web ranking system, I can also own up to the fact that my sucky blogging motivation also contributed. Luckily, I'm moving forward and moving on hoping for a brighter future. I've already promised myself a dramatically better next six months and am promising all of you loyal readers (who I am TRULY grateful for!!) that what is to come will be so much better than you can imagine. You deserve it for still putting up with my nonsense after all this time.

And now that I'm done rambling: I hope you have an amazing rest of your week and a fabuluxe Juneteenth weekend!

Diva

Of course I could have easily not published anything at all for this week's Monday blog post, but that wouldn't be any fun. So instead I decided to grace you all with this hilarious pin from my "Humor Me" Pinterest board. I've been getting a little behind on my posting schedule and I'm trying my best to keep up, but sometimes life get's the best of me. Even though it's summer I feel like there are a hundred and one things I need to do before September gets here so pardon my lack of engagement every so often and remember: a diva is a female version of a hustler... of a, of a hustleerrrr ;)

2. Just like model scouting, "wall scouting" is a thing and it proves there are some gorgeously Instagram-able walls around the U.S. Click to see if there are any popular walls in your city.

3. A simple guide (with fun GIFs) on how to DIY any pair of shorts this summer.

4. The skincare routine of someone who once wanted to be a dermatologist seems more reliable to me than just any ol' skincare blog post.

5. Bright patterened swimwear is one of my favorite parts of summer and this swimsuit is a perfect example of why.

6. Chioma's combination of bright purple lipstick and giant ringlet curls = ah-mazing beauty inspo.

Getting Down To Business

teen vogue, controversy, controversial, subscription, bella thorne, teenvogue

Teen Vogue has been one of my favorite magazines for a long time and I don't think there will ever be a time when I don't appreciate the content the Teen Vogue team publishes ever month. Being a (relatively) long-time reader, I've witnessed several changes in each print issue. Some where obvious like removing monthly horoscopes, taking out the monthly shopping guides, adding more "insider" celebrity features like the My World flat-lays, and introducing more and more career-centric advice like the Ask An Editor. Some where a little more subtle like the transition from calling members of the staff bloggers to editors (i.e. "beauty blogger" "entertainment blogger" "fashion blogger" to "beauty editor" "entertainment editor" and "fashion editor"), the dismissal of In This Issue, and the renaming of recurring features so that they now include alliterations with each editor's name.

However, the most notable change to Teen Vogue and teenvogue.com is the shift in "hot button" articles and culturally relevant content. My sister and I once joked that all of Teen Vogue's 'serious' articles were about over-tanning, marijuana, and obesity. Now every day there's a new political piece about what it's like to be a transgender teen, why going to college right out of high school might not be the best option for you, the importance of the topics covered in Pres. Obama's state of the union address, or why racism/police brutality is an issue for ALL races. The editors and contributors at Teen Vogue are obviously taking their teenage readers more seriously. Unlike many other teen glossies, they have always kept a level of intelligence in each issue by favoring informative industry articles and artistic interviews over boy crazy tips and painfully basic fashion news. Thankfully, now they're taking it even further and getting down to the serious business of the world without omitting the original content we already love. With the magazine's more serious yet fashionably lighthearted new direction its appeal now spans beyond its namesake "teen" audience. College students and young adults will undoubtedly find the new and improved Teen Vogue just as great as any teen so get a 2 year subscription now for just $10.

Cupcakes and Cashmere + Birchbox

birchbox,
birchbox,

I never want to throw out empty words into the blogosphere so when I told you that the Cupcakes and Cashmere edition of  Birchbox would be a great high school graduation gift I meant it. I ordered one for myself as a little "Congratulations, you did it!" gift and tried almost all the products inside. If you're familiar with Birchbox you know that you can go on the Birchbox website and post full reviews on all of the items you received in your package and rate each thing you tried. Today I'm just going to give you a little debriefing of each product -- a "yay" or "nay" -- and a few of my feelings about each item. Nothing too detailed, but enough to decide if you'd want to buy the product or not so that if you do want to buy one of the products or simply get a more in depth look at what I (and many others!) think of it, you can head on over to birchbox.com/shop and check it out for yourself.

Number 4  Jour d'automne Thermal Styling Spray: This is by far my favorite product from the May box and if it weren't for the astronomical price I would definitely by the full size. The smell is addictive (a little fruity and a little flowery mixed with the usual hair product smell) and the hold is perfect for flyaway hairs (or blending your real hair with your extensions ;)) and DOESN'T leave your hair stiff/crunchy which is my number one request in a hairspray. [4 out of 5 stars]

Benefit It's Potent! Eye Cream: My second favorite of the bunch, this eye cream seemingly worked miracles on my under eye circles. Daily use is recommended to reduce dark circles over time, but for me it worked more dramatically the first few days and barely seemed to make a difference after a couple of weeks. I've never really been worried about my dark under eye circles and I already have relatively dark skin so I think this works best for anyone looking to lighten their under eye circles with fair to olive skin tones. [3 out of 5 stars]

Harvey Prince "Sincerely" Perfume: I am fairly open to trying new perfumes and initially I was a fan of this scent. However, the more I wear it the more masculine the fragrance seems to smell. The veerry light sugary notes semi-balance out the manly musk, but I'd rather stick to the perfumes I have. [2 1/2 out of 5 stars]

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner: First, I avoid traditional pencil eyeliners at all costs. This eyeliner  was no different than any other mid-level quality pencil eyeliner I've tried in the past. The tip was a bit too thick for my liking and dulled after just a few uses. Because I rarely use pencil eyeliner I didn't have a sharpener on hand to sharpen it so after less than a week it's become practically useless. [2 out of 5 stars]

CoTZ Flawless Complexion SPF 50: Honestly, I am unsure what exactly this product is. Is it sunscreen? Moisturizer? A blemish fighting foundation? Not only am I hesitant to try what I am unsure of, but the lotion-like product is also "lightly tinted." I assume they meant extremely light coverage, but the tint is also so light in color (read: sand colored) that it would look ridiculous on my dark complexion. I didn't even bother trying it. [0 out of 5 stars]

An Ice Cream Social, Without The Ice Cream

You know when famous YouTubers shamelessly plug in their social media handles while filming their videos and are sarcastically unapologetic about it? I'm not famous and I'm not a YouTuber, but here I am shamelessly telling you that my Twitter handle is @byMunachi and that you can find me on Instagram @GlamorousRevelation_Blog. So pretty much I've just invited you to an ice cream social, but conveniently forgot to bring the ice cream. You obviously don't have to follow me on Instagram or Twitter, but I will say this: I maaayyyy be hosting a giveaway soon (I know, I know! I've been planning this giveaway for a long time. The right time just hasn't presented itself but hopefully it will soon :)) via Instagram and you'll want to follow me so you can win all the goods (Rebecca Minkoff, Pearls and Pastries, Ban.do!) I've got to offer.

Hair Flair

It Girl bobbi pins: Ban.do; The Glitter Plan by Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor: Amazon.com; pink greeting card: Daydream Prints; bag-o-sparkle: Pearls and Pastries

Most days I like to keep it super low-key with my hair. I do a series of brushing then straightening then brushing then straightening until it lays flat and [sort of] tangle free on my head. But to absolutely no ones surprise I still drop a pretty penny on some of the cutest hair accessories I can find. Case in point: these bestselling It Girl bobbi pins from Ban.do.  I'd been wanting to order the "Super/Fun/Yeah" set since I first saw it on ShopBando.com and lucky for me during an incredibly fun 3-Day trip to Nashville back in March, I stopped by the Vanderbilt bookstore and saw not only my favorite It Girl bobbi pin set on sale, but also a couple of Ban.do's other most popular hair pins. I stocked up and bought one giant, rose gold "Party" pin, one giant, rose gold "Rebel" pin, and two "Super/Fun/Yeah" sets. So now I've pretty much awakened the Ban.do accessory loving beast within me because now I'm even more excited to get the new Ban.do bobbi pins from their  latest Spring/Summer collection.

Lovely Lady: Jane Aldridge

jane aldridge, sea of shoes, seaofshoes, style blogger, red hair, outfit inspo
Sea of Shoes was one of the first blogs I ever read, waaaayyy back before I even knew a real blogosphere existed. Now, even when there are zillions of fashion blogs flooding the interwebs, Jane Aldridge still brings a fanciful fun to the sartorial world. I appreciate her extravagant outfits even when she's doing the most mundane of things. I don't doubt that she would be the over the top girl wearing a full blown glamour outfit in the Wal-Mart pasta aisle or that extraordinary blogger who everyone seems to hate. These are some of my favorite outfits that Jane has been strolling around in lately. Her blog can be a tad bit bland for the those who enjoy the colorful charisma of many other major league blogs, but her Instagram makes up for anything her website is lacking. Aviator sunglasses, wide brimmed hats, big skirts, and milkmaid braids are definitely my type of party.

What We're Watching

It is practically impossible for me to watch a single season of any show from premiere to finale, no matter  how much I love the show. It's not that I'm not a dedicated fan (I'm just as obsessed and over-involved with the lives of each character and the actors that play them) or that I haven't found any good shows to watch. It really just boils down to the fact that the physical act of sitting on a couch and staring at a TV bores me. Luckily more and more shows are making their episodes available online and a lot of networks are premiering new shows this summer for me to obsess over. Here's a quick list of a few of the TV shows that'll be running the circuit this summer and will likely appear on the screens of the televisions in my home. Don't worry, Pretty Little Liars is definitely not on the list (neither is the Bachelor/Bachelorette, so any of you die hard fans feel free to exit out now ;)), but there is a good mix of comedy, drama, and reality so there's a little something for everyone.

Suits (USA Network): Catch up on seasons 1-4 on Amazon Prime and watch the summer premiere of Season 5 on June 24 at 9/8c

Rich Kids of Beverly Hills (E!): Season 3 has already started, but tune in to the rest of the season on Sundays at 10/9c and don't forget to live tweet using the hashtag #RichKids!

Unreal (Lifetime): A highly advertised, scripted spoof of the Bachelor/Bachorlette airs Mondays at 10/9c and promises to be everything your reality TV and satirical videography dreams are made of.

Odd Mom Out (Bravo): A new, scripted comedy series by Bravo Network that highlights the cliches of Upper East Side moms through the life of the"odd mom out" who's low key and actually eats carbs. *gasp* New episodes premiere Mondays starting June 8 at 10/9c

The Fosters (ABC Family): *I try to avoid ABC Family shows as much as possible, but The Fosters has a depth to it that many of its other shows lack making it worth the watch, in my opinion, even if you want to hurl the remote at the TV out of frustration every now and then* June 8 at 8/7c

Astronaut Wives Club (ABC): A period drama based on the wives of those who were at the height of the hype during the Space Race premieres June 18 at 8/7c

Orange Is The New Black (Netflix): Call in sick and stream all of Season 3 straight from Netflix on June 12. The office will understand: OITNB's season 3 release is a priority and warrants a day off.  Let the binge watching begin!

Polish Pods

formula x, polish pods, review, nail art, at home manicure, vegan nail art, 5-free, 3-free

Just like all the magazines (Teen Vogue named it the best beauty innovation of 2014 here, Allure awarded it Best Beauty Breakthrough of the Year here) I was kind of obsessed with the idea of these single use nail polish pods. They come in loads of colors and are the perfect size for an on the manicure so you can quickly paint your nails before running out the door or you can paint them on the go when you're waiting in the ridiculously long at Starbucks. Pretty much, they are a nail polish enthusiast's dream, That is, until you realize that the idea of something is usually much better than the execution of it. I believe the saying goes something like "easier advertised than done," right?

The online reviews for Formula X's nail polish pods have been overwhelmingly negative. They go on and on about specific colors drying up or being difficult to squeeze out of the bottle making the entire set (all pods come in a single set of 24 colors) a waste of enthusiasm and money. I'm here to say that my experiences so far have not been nearly as bad as many of those roaming around the internet, but there are a few "glitches" in the design, if you will. Like most said, after about the fourth or fifth finger it becomes increasingly difficult to squeeze the remaining polish out of the pods. However I simply poked a hole in the bottom of whichever little pod I was using and squeezed it out from that end, which was surprisingly easy and got my manicure done within 5 minutes. The bottom of each pod is made of an aluminum foil like material so it's extremely easy to puncture, thankfully. Of course this makes the easy-breezy aspect of it practically go away since poking a hole in the bottom of a bottle of nail polish can be messy, but in all honesty it was still easy and simply and once you're done you just throw away the single use, empty nail polish pod.
