When I go shopping, I take on one of two personalities; the incredibly stingy shopper who won't spend more than $10 on any one item or the shopaholic who buys anything and everything in sight, regardless of the cost. More often than not, I'm the former. Instead of breaking the bank on costly designer duds, I find alternatives that have what I love about [insert designer item here] with a much friendlier price tag.
I've been obsessed with Mignonne Gavigan since I found out about them through their Instagram giveaway about 2 months ago. Lately I haven't been able to get my mind off of all of the gorgeous scarf necklaces on the Mignonne Gavigan website and ended up changing my iPhone lockscreen to a picture of one of their scarves from Instagram. However, no matter how much I love them they're a bit pricey for my part-time-teenager-job lifestyle. Luckily while I was on vacation last month I spotted a handful of headbands with beaded and sequin detailing in color schemes like the Mignonne Gavigan scarf necklaces. I picked my two favorites, cut out the elastic on the inside, and unfolded all the layers of fabric to create my own version of a scarf necklace. The headbands retail for about $20 a piece but I got them for a discounted price at $7. Of course they don't compare to the hand beading and silk patterns of the originals, but they should hold me over until I get the chance to purchase a Mignonne Gavigan of my own.
